It’s my middle child’s 3rd Birthday, oh how time flies. Seems just like yesterday I was bringing him home. He was always such a cranky little thing, he has grown so much he still has his moments but he is so quick and smart. I am amazed at how much a child can learn and grow in 3 short years. Did you know ( I know you don’t so I’m gonna tell ya 😉 ) he knew his alphabet letters and sounds before he even said any words at 18 months, the pediatrician didn’t believe it till I showed her. He is still obsessed with anything that has letters or numbers in it. Mickey Mouse is also his favorite character, he gets so excited with anything he is on. So the cake to make for his birthday was a no brainer. I got the idea from Sweet Pudgy Panda, she doesn’t have a blog but she has FaceBook and a Flickr account. I changed up my cake a little from hers but I got the inspiration from her. She has some seriously beautiful cakes! Anyhow here are pics of One Sock’s Mickey Mouse Cake.
This year I decided to start a new Christmas tradition, doughnuts on Christmas morning. MMMMMMM! I love me some doughnuts, like seriously. I saw on Pioneer Womans show how to make these doughnuts. I must say these are the best doughnuts I have ever had, they beat Dunkins and any small town shop I’ve ever had. AND I can make them at home anytime I want them! They are light and fluffy and everything you can dream in a doughnut, the only down side is…….. well if I find one I’ll let you know. 😉 If you love doughnuts too you REALLY need to try these.
Cookies again you say?! Why yes, yes I did. 😀 I love cookies, I can’t help myself. This time though I made them with almond flavoring instead of vanilla, same with the icing. SOOO GOOD!! I use my favorite recipe for cutouts which you can find here, just switch out the vanilla for almond (unless you’d rather have the vanilla well then by all means). I like both ways! The royal icing recipe I use is on Sweetopia‘s blog, here is the link. I’m not saying this is the best way to make cutouts, it’s just my favorite way. Cutouts are time consuming but oh so worth it in the end. Now for a few pictures of my cookies. 😀
I don’t eat much cake, not sure why. I like cupcakes better, I know it’s silly. Anyhow I like to decorate cakes better than cupcakes, you know, bigger work area. For a family get together this fall I made a cake, since it wasn’t a special occasion you know like a birthday or holiday I just went with time of year. Fall! So here is my fall cake. It’s was just a simple chocolate cake, buttercream icing with a ribbon around the bottom and fondant leaves.
Who doesn’t love cookies! Ok, I’m sure there is someone who doesn’t like cookies but not in this house. I love decorating them even more than I love eating them. And even though sugar cookies are a lot of work they are also one of my favorites to bake, so many options! So for Thanksgiving I made some Turkey cookies and Leaf cookies. I’m happy to say they were a big hit. 😀 The idea was not mine though, I tend to
steal borrow ideas. I got the idea from Sweetopia, LOVE her blog.
